As a Chicago wedding photographer, you just can’t beat a summer engagement session in the suburbs.

If you’re from Chicago, you know there’s nothing like summertime Chi. It’s the reason you push through the winter, every single year. Those perfect summers make every month of freezing your butt off more than worth it.

Sarah and Brandon’s love story began right here, at Adler pool in Libertyville. they worked as lifeguards together during their summers home in college. They reconnected, unexpectedly in 2021, and by the end of that first night they knew they had something special. Fast forward to now and they’re planning their Chicago winter wedding!

When planning an engagement session, I always have a few tips for couples to make sure that we make the most of our time together. Sarah + Brandon’s engagement session had all the things I recommend to couples to make their engagement session a success:

1. They made their session an occasion to get dressed up for, while still feeling like themselves. They coordinated, can you get over the blues!?, but didn’t match too too much. You want to feel like *you* but it can also be the perfect opportunity to dress up a bit. I mean, it’s not everyday you have your engagement photos taken, you know?
2. A beautiful location that had special meaning to them. You don’t have to pick a special place but it always adds depth to an engagement session when the location means something to a couple. It makes for great storytelling when you pull these photos out to show your grandkids down the road!
3. They were upfront about being nervous and trusted me to help them feel comfortable and get some beautiful shots that showcase their personalities and relationship.
