Joyful Southall Meadows Wedding |Franklin TN Wedding Photographer | Kimberly and Eric

Weddings

Kimberly and Eric reached out to me with some wonderful and personal priorities for their fall wedding at Southall Meadows. They wanted their day to feel both intentional and laid-back. Taking a “no stress” approach to wedding planning and especially a stress-free wedding day was at the top of the list too. Finally, they wanted to partner with vendors who would compliment that approach. Both of them believed that that this season, while full, could be light-hearted and enjoyable.

I like to ask couples what they’ve seen done at weddings they’ve attended that they loved and things they’ve experienced at other weddings that they didn’t like. I ask this because for a lot of couples, this is the first time they’re planning a wedding. Because of this, it can be hard to answer questions about what their dream day is like. Asking about previous experiences can help shape their vision and put some words to their desires.

Kimberly and Eric talked about previous wedding experiences where they’ve observed that there are “so many traditions people ‘have to do'”. However, they wanted to be thoughtful about what they picked to include in the day. They didn’t want to include anything just for the sake of “tradition”. Above all, it was important that their day reflected their relationship, values, and priorities. The two of them wanted it to be a celebration of all that has lead them to this day and what is to come for them as a couple.

Their Wedding Day, Southall Meadows, Franklin, TN

One of the things I ask couples on our initial call is, “How do you want your wedding day to feel?” The way you answer gives me so much insight into your priorities and how I can best serve you to make those things happen.

Based on Kimberly and Eric’s priorities and intentions, there are a few things we did from a photography standpoint to support their goals. First, we included a first look. When we initially spoke, Kimberly was on the fence about doing a first look. But when we laid out the day and she saw how it would 1. give her and Eric more time together and 2. it would give more breathing room to spend time with guests during cocktail hour instead of spend it all taking photos, she was on board. They also decided they wanted to exchange private vows, so a first look gave them the perfect opportunity to do that.

Another way we maximized Kimberly and Eric’s time together and with guests was by completing all formal photos before the ceremony. By formal photos I mean the first look, bride and groom portraits, bridal party portraits, and immediate family photos. A few guests arrived late, but it was no stress because we just added those few groupings on immediately after the ceremony since we had the time. Kimberly and Eric were relieved to not have to think about (almost all of) those formal photos after the ceremony and could focus on celebrating with their people!

As a result, their day was peaceful, joyful, and time with loved ones was maximized. There was time for in-between moments to be savored, not rushed through.

The Ceremony

Friends and family gathered under the massive tree in the pasture. There was a quiet excitement from the guests as they watched Kimberly and Eric tie the knot.

The sunshine glowed golden hues over the crowd, like a little bit of heaven opened up over the couple. It was stunning, and it felt like time held its’ breath as the two exchanged vows. It couldn’t have been more peaceful.

The Reception | The Barn at Southall Meadows

Afterwards, guests enjoyed cocktail hour outside The Barn. They sipped their favorite cocktails on 200+ acres, surrounded by rolling hills and the West Harpeth River. They had a 360-degree views of the Tennessee countryside. Does it get anymore picturesque?

Guests made their way into the 100-year old tobacco barn to continue the celebration. The golden light warmed up the space with the beautiful hues of sunset.

As the sun began to set, we snuck away for some moments just the two of them. They were excited to get some sunset photos and the sunset was showing off for us. It was stunning with hues of purple and pink cotton candy. This time is also the perfect moment to step back and take it all in. This really *is* your day and you really *are* married. This time is kind of like the exhale of the day. All the formalities are out of the way and it’s just the two of you, married and starting your life together!
